"You're a parent. You handle the school runs, the doctor appointments, the bills, the passwords. If something happened to you tomorrow, could your family keep things running? Would they know who to call, how to pay the mortgage, where the insurance documents are?"

Break Glass lets you write all of that down — encrypted, private, and ready to be released to the right people at the right time. Your sister gets the kids' school contacts. Your partner gets the financial accounts. Your lawyer gets the custody documents. Each person gets only what they need.

How it works

Three steps to peace of mind.

Step 1
Write your plans

Create encrypted messages for different situations — death, incapacitation, digital compromise. Add contacts and assign who gets what.

Step 2
Share access

Give trusted people an activation card with a URL and PIN. Optionally require multiple people to agree before a plan activates.

Step 3
Rest easy

If an emergency happens, your trusted contact enters their PIN. Your encrypted messages are decrypted and delivered to the right people.

Built for real emergencies

Different people, different situations — one system.

Family Emergency Plan

Passwords, bank accounts, insurance, bills, school contacts, medical info — everything your family needs to keep things running if you can't. Different people get different information based on the situation.

Crypto & Digital Assets

Instructions for finding your hardware wallet, safe combinations, recovery procedures, and who to contact for help — delivered only to the people you choose. Don't let your digital wealth become permanently inaccessible.

Solo Travel & High-Risk Work

Emergency contacts, embassy info, legal documents, and "if I don't check in" plans for journalists, aid workers, and travellers. The safety check-in monitors you automatically.

Business Continuity

Server credentials, domain access, client contacts, and operational runbooks. If you're a solo founder, freelancer, or the only one who knows the passwords — your business doesn't die with you.

Encrypted Until Delivered

Your messages are encrypted at rest with keys unique to your account. When your plan activates, they're decrypted and delivered only to the people you chose.

Someone You Trust Triggers It

Your spouse, lawyer, or a trusted friend gets an activation card with a URL and PIN. When they confirm something has happened, your information is released.

A Safety Net If No One Can

Optionally enable a safety check-in. If you stop responding, the system can send escalating reminders — email, push, SMS, even voice calls. If you truly can't respond, your plan activates automatically.

Protection From Mistakes

Every plan has a cancellation window. If someone triggers it accidentally, you're notified instantly and can cancel with one click.

Security you can verify

AES-256 Encryption

Every message is encrypted with its own unique key using AES-256-GCM — the same standard used by banks and governments. Each user gets independent encryption keys.

Encrypted at Rest

Your information is encrypted before it's stored. Passwords and PINs are irreversibly hashed. Your data is protected by full-disk encryption and hardware-backed key protection.

Multiple Approvals

Optionally require two or more trusted people to agree before your plan activates. One trusted contact works great for most people — add multiple approvals when you want extra protection.

Questions

Password managers store credentials for daily use. Break Glass stores emergency instructions that are released to other people when something happens to you. It's not about accessing your own accounts — it's about making sure the right people get the right information at the right time.

Every plan has a configurable cancellation window — from instant to 7 days. When triggered, you're immediately notified via email, push, SMS, and voice call. You can cancel with one click from your dashboard. Accidental triggers are the most common concern — that's why the cancellation window exists.

No. Multiple layers prevent this: trusted contacts never see your information — it's delivered to recipients, not the person who triggered it. Every trigger has a cancellation window where you're notified instantly via email, SMS, push, and voice call, and can cancel with one click. Even if your trusted contact is also a recipient, the cancellation window and requiring multiple people to agree prevent anyone from acting alone. You can revoke anyone's access at any time.

Your information is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM with keys unique to your account. Passwords and PINs are hashed with Argon2id and never stored. The server is protected by full-disk encryption and hardware-backed key protection. See our security page for full details.

Your data is backed up automatically. If the service goes offline temporarily, the safety check-in pauses and resumes when it comes back. Your data remains encrypted at rest throughout.

Break Glass has a free plan that lets you set up one emergency scenario with one trusted contact — no credit card required. For unlimited scenarios, contacts, safety check-in, and multi-channel notifications, it's $2.99 USD per month plus applicable taxes.

I built Break Glass because I realised if something happened to me, my wife would be locked out of everything — and existing tools only let you share all or nothing. I'm a solo developer focused on getting the security model right.
